Community-Based Academics

Winona State students have many opportunities to take classes that include community work as a regular part of the course. These class opportunities result in wonderful outcomes for both students and community members. A number of Community-Student Connection Stories highlight these benefits.

Featured Community-Academic Partnership

WSU-Park and Rec

The city of Winona’s Park and Recreation Department has worked with faculty and students at WSU for many years and at many levels. Starting from the co-design of a single program in 2002, however, they began a true partnership with WSU through our Department of Recreation, Tourism and Therapeutic Recreation. Since that time, the partnership has grown significantly such that both departments now depend on each other and work together to meet their own and each other’s goals.

Here is Youtube video that describes the partnership: WSU-ParkAndRec Video

Academic service opportunities for students are now available in a third of our programs and in all of our colleges.
