General Information

Student Housing:

Students who have arrangements to live in on-campus housing are not affected by the flood and may move in as arranged.

Those who live off campus should carefully inspect their apartments and houses for any water damage. If you find damage, it is crucial that you contact your landlord immediately. Landlords are currently inspecting their properties, but you will need to alert them to any problems.

Should you not be able to reach the owner, you will need to call the City of Winona inspections office at 457-8231 to report the damage. If you live in Goodview, call 452-1630.

If you are displaced, call 457-5310 to notify the university. The Winona State University Housing Office has a list of available rental properties. The list can be viewed at www.winona.edu/sac. Call the Housing Office at 457-5305 for additional information.

According to Minnesota Statute 504B.131 on RENT LIABILITY; UNINHABITABLE BUILDINGS:

A tenant or occupant of a building that is destroyed or becomes uninhabitable or unfit for occupancy through no fault or neglect of the tenant or occupant may vacate and surrender such a building. A tenant or occupant may expressly agree otherwise except as prohibited by section 504B.161.

Legal Services and Tenants provides further information on this.

Medical Needs:

Tetanus shots are not necessary unless there is a puncture wound and your last tetanus shot was prior to five years ago. The Winona State University Health Services office offers tetanus shots for students and employees who require them. Employees will be billed later. Call 457-5160 for more information regarding shots.

For counseling, the Winona State University Counseling Center offers assistance for students. Please contact that office at 457-5330 for additional information. Persons affected by the flood may also contact the Winona County Red Cross at 452-4258 for appropriate referrals.
