This minor educates students through an interdisciplinary set of classes to be efficient and resourceful with today's precious resources.The requirements of the minor are to help students gain an understanding of the complex issues surrounding present and future challenges to building and maintaining a more sustainable society. Because of the the diverse nature of sustainability issues, the sustainability minor will compliment any undergraduate/graduate major.
Sustainability as defined by the United Nations is a way for humankind to "meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs." As businesses and organizations are putting more emphasises on "going green", there will be a growing demand for employees with the knowledge and practice of sustainability. With this is in mind Winona State University has created the Sustainability minor to arm future gradates with the knowledge and skills to be sustainable and use sustainable ideas and technology.
