Time Topic Notes
8:30 Welcome Name tags
8:45 Intro to Camp
  • Introductions of WSU team
  • Review basic plan of camp
  • Finding your computer
  • Setting up accounts
  • Sorting ourselves
The WSU team is here to help you learn and have fun at the same time. Feel free to ask us any questions you have during the week - about computing, or college, or whatever!
After introductions, we'll figure out which computer is yours for the week. The goal is for everybody to sit in sections with people of similar computer experience. Once we're sure of your seat, you'll tape your Name Card to the back of the monitor.
Accounts:
  • Your WSU Camp account is automatic
  • Each student will need a google account:
    Creating a Google Account
  • A TA will help you set your account up if you don't already have one.

Sorting Fun
  1. Have students sort themselves alphabetically, with no further instruction
  2. Explain bubble sort, and sort by height

What do you think "Computer Science" is all about?
Video [2:04 minutes]: What is computer science?
Let's get started with some programming:
  1. Go to Camp2016 Course
(We are doing the "Accelerated" course for high school students, with the Section ID = RBXGLJ)
  2. Log on with your google account (and NEVER with your facebook account)
  3. Start with Stage 2, "The Maze"
  4. If you complete the Maze, start on Stage 9, "The Farmer"
  5. If you finish Stage 9, try your hand at Stages, 13 and 17!

12:30 Grapics and 3D Printing - A
  • Introduction to Vector graphics
  • Introduction to 3D printing
Vector graphics is about the creation of digital images through a sequence of commands or mathematical statements that place lines and shapes in a given two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) space. So, instead of taking a picture with a camera, or creating an image with something like photoshop, vector graphics images are created by a computer executing a program.
Difference in vector art image and raster image.
We can use special tools to create vector graphics images. Or we can write our own code to create them!
Let's see what Code Maven has to say about this.

Intro to 3D Printing
  1. How is 3D technology is related to coding, gaming and printing?
  2. Let's build our own object and print it out.

2:45 Who Are We?
  • Role models
  • Building a group map
Besides someone you know personally, who is one of your role models and why? Go online and find out some information about this person:
  1. Figure out what part of the world this person lives or works in.
  2. Find a good picture of this person. Save the picture to your desktop.
  3. Find some additional media (song, video, audio) about this person.
  4. Come up with a sentence or two about why this person is your role model.

After you have gathered all of this information, add your role model to the IT Camp 2016 Zeemap. (Click on the blue marker in southern California to see an example.)
4:15 Wrap-up. Plan for tomorrow
