My name is Erin Fern Morcomb, and I am a sophomore Biology major. I am one of four returning students from last year’s New Orleans service learning trip, and once I heard that we were being given the opportunity to return to the city to help out for a second time, I immediately took the offer. I thought that it would be interesting to see what kind of improvements have been made since a year ago. The city of New Orleans is a wonderful and very cultural city, and it would be a shame to see its demolishment. More important than a loss of culture, however, would be the loss of what a lot of people consider to be their only “home.” It’s devastating to see people lose everything that they have, and it gave our entire team a sense of accomplishment to realize that we made a difference in someone’s life by helping them to get back on their feet once again.
