Incorporating Farm Tours into Your Classes - August 21, 2009
In an effort to help students understand connections between the food we buy and the consequences to our community, economy, and landscape, we have arranged support from a number of local farmers to host farm tours for students this year. This one-hour workshop will provide information to help you plan a class-visit out to one of the local farms and will discuss ways in which this opportunity can be incorporated into your course.
Information will be presented on various topics that can be addressed on a farm tour, such as, ecosystem decision-making models, preservation of farm land, farm labor models, organic certification process, food transportation and food distribution. Discussions and handouts will cover protocol for students on a farm, logistics of arranging a farm tour, and financial support available for travel.
Light refreshments (local foods, of course) will be provided.
