Winona's Lake Park Drinking Fountain - And the WINNER is ...

Clean Water Brings Life, designed by Lynette Power, is the winner of the Lake Park Drinking Fountain Design competition. The bronze sculpture of three otters playing was chosen as the winner by over 800 people in the community who took part in the online voting from January 26 - February 3, 2009. Depending on weather conditions, we hope to unveil the new public drinking fountain at Lake Park on Earth Day - April 18, 2009. Stay tuned for further details!

[Original Call for Designs: Artists from Minnesota as well as Wisconsin and Iowa may apply. Designs will be due by December 15, 2008 and the winning design will be announced in January, 2009. The chosen artist(s) will be awarded $12,000 to implement the renovation. This amount includes an estimated cost of materials of around $6,000. Adopt-a-Drinking-Fountain - Calling all Water Drinkers!!

Drinking fountains in buildings all around Winona are available for "adoption" by any named group. Once a fountain is adopted, the group is responsible for deciding on a way to decorate the fountain and then decorating it the second week in April 2009. Pictures of the decorated drinking fountains will be submitted to the project and a map of all of them will be generated in time for Earth Day, April 18, 2009. Best Fountain awards will be announced and given out on Earth Day.
