St. Michael's special School Garden renovation

St. Michael's Special School is a school for mentally delayed students from the age of 5 to 21 that serves the entire area of New Orleans. The school was not flooded during the hurricane, but it did sustain some wind damage. In addition, the grounds and garden areas had received minimal attention since the hurricane. When you see the devastation all around the city, you realize that the school serves also as a refuge for the students and teachers to come to each day. So, our job was to weed the gardens, clean and paint tables and benches, and plant a little bit of color and cheer.

We were also able to work each day with the children at St. Michael's. That ended up being the best part of the week!

Our group worked on garden maintenance that included weeding, clearing out old brush, pruning trees and bushes,
planting new flowers and laying down new pine needle mulch.
We also sanded tables and benches and repainted them.
Two of our brave team members had to do "dead-squirle removal."

The whole crew.
